Worker dies of injuries after industrial incident in Cardiff

A worker from Cardiff who was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after an industrial incident has died, South Wales Police has confirmed. Emergency services had been called to print manufacturer Gardners at the Avenue Industrial Estate in the Pontprennau area of Cardiff on the morning of Monday, September 5.

The 59-year-old man was taken to University Hospital Wales in Cardiff with life-threatening injuries following the incident and a joint investigation was launched by South Wales Police and the Health and Safety Executive. However South Wales Police has now confirmed that the man has died of his injuries.

A statement from South Wales Police said: "At around 10.45am on Monday, September 5, emergency services were called to a unit in Pontprennau following a report of an industrial incident. A 59-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales with life-threatening injuries and he has since died of his injuries. Next of kin and HM Coroner has been informed. A joint investigation by South Wales Police and the Health and Safety Executive is continuing." The nature of the incident has yet to be confirmed.

Richard Courtney, managing director at Gardners, said: "All of us at Gardners are devastated by this tragic accident. He was a close friend and colleague, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this sad and difficult time. The incident is being treated as an industrial accident and we are fully co-operating with the HSE and police on an ongoing basis.”
