A Sydney airport employee at a luxury jewellery store allegedly stole more than $50,000 worth of designer goods from her workplace over the Christmas and New Year period.
Chantelle Elizabeth Carrington, a 39-year-old Kingsgrove woman, has been charged over the missing merchandise and appeared at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.
An investigation was carried out by the Australian Federal Police, which is responsible for policing Sydney airport, following a recent complaint from Cartier, a luxury jewellery shop in the airport's international terminal.
Carrington allegedly carried out the offences between December 21 and January 4.
Officers raided the woman's home a week after the last alleged theft and seized four bracelets, three pens, two lighters, two bracelet keys, a pair of earrings, a wallet, a candle and a men's pendant.
Investigators also seized a Sydney Airport visitor pass, an Australian passport and electronic devices.
The woman was charged with larceny by a clerk or servants, an offence that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail.
Detective Superintendent Morgen Blunden said the AFP was committed to the safety and security of all major Australian airports, irrespective of the crime.
"This woman allegedly abused her position within the airport terminal for personal gain," he said.
"The AFP has a positive working relationship with airport businesses to prevent, detect and respond to this type of activity."
