Work is currently underway at the former Eglantine Bar on the Malone Road ahead of its expected reopening under new owners this year.
In October 2022, it was announced that Northern Irish hospitality company The Clover Group has purchased the historic South Belfast pub.
A long-standing Belfast institution located adjacent to Queen’s University, the ‘Eg’ had been a popular spot amongst students over many decades with the venue having been first designed back in 1898 by the same architects as the iconic Crown Bar.

The new owners are planning a £500,000 refurbishment of the venue this year and will create 30 new jobs when construction is complete.
It is not yet understood whether the bar will remain called the Eglantine Inn or the 'Eg' as it is often known.
On announcing the purchase of the bar last year, that had been rumoured to have almost been taken over by British pub chain JD Wetherspoons, it was revealed that the bar’s focus will be on showing a range of sporting events blended with a great food offering.
The Clover Group currently run eight hospitality venues across the city including Whites Tavern, The Jailhouse and Pug Uglies and aside from the Eglantine transformation, are working on two new projects.
They are the development of a new pod hotel in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter and a new venue 'Brat' which will be an extension of the popular cocktail bar Margot.
In a statement to Belfast Live, a spokesperson for the Glover Group said: "The Clover group are excited for the future plans for the former EG site on the Malone road in Belfast.
"We are working on creating a venue to cater to those in the neighbourhood as well as visitors with a focus on great local food, fantastic drinks, live entertainment as well as showing local and international sport as part of our offering.
"We are looking forward to inviting guests to enjoy a cocktail on our balcony, a pint on our terrace or even Sunday roast with all the family in late 2023."
