Work is underway on a new Wetherspoons pub after its opening day was pushed back.
The Master Mariner in New Brighton was due to open at the end of August after the pub was closed for major renovations. These would involve the expansion of the pub into a neighbouring premises, the building of the former Lacy's Bar.
However, the opening and expansion, which will make the pub 50% bigger, was delayed due to it being in a "poor state". JD Wetherspoons said at the time that the opening had been delayed "indefinitely" due to the existing pub being in a "poor state and as a result the project needs to be reviewed".

The project was then put on hold as the pub reviewed "all options for taking the project forward," before resuming the project with plans to demolish the neighbouring building. The former Lacy's Bar has now been demolished as further work is underway on the expansion.
The seaside pub opened in 2013 in buildings previously occupied by Rjs and the Playas Lounge nightclubs. At the time, Wetherspoon was slammed for not using the former Lacy's Bar site after buying it in 2015.
Yesterday the company confirmed there is still no update on the potential opening date of the pub once the works are finished.
