Upgrade works to four playgrounds in the Bridgend county borough area have begun this month, set to the value of £500,000, with the aim of making them inclusive for children across all levels of physical ability.
The play areas which have been a part of the new investment include Adare Street in Ogmore Vale, Heol y Goedwig in Porthcawl, New Street Play Area in Aberkenfig, and the Tondu Post Office Play Area on Maesteg Road.

The refurbishments are part of a £500,000 investment form the council and will include either new play equipment or repairs to existing facilities at the sites. It will also see the addition of new and inclusive equipment that allows all children to use them, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
A council spokesperson said that all the facilities will now be suitable for wheelchair access, with inclusive roundabouts installed at the New Street and Tondu Post Office play areas, and an inclusive mountain multi-play unit at Heol y Goedwig in Porthcawl.
Councillor John Spanswick said it was great to see playgrounds on offer with fun ways of play available to both disabled and able-bodied children in Bridgend.
He said: "We believe that every child should have equal access to the best play opportunities. When new activities are installed in local playgrounds, the council is committed to providing inclusive equipment. It’s great to see new playground equipment introduced that’s fun for all children, not just the able bodied." You can read more of our stories from Bridgend here.
