Justin Longmuir has paid scant attention to Fremantle's winning streak, noting there is much to be done in this AFL season.
The Dockers' 43-point win over Essendon on Sunday at the MCG took them to nine straight victories, equalling the club record.
But once again this year they did not play a full game, with the Bombers outscoring them in the second half after a 100-point mauling looked on the cards at the main break.
The Dockers coach said there was no acknowledgement of equalling the club record, adding there was frustration among the players post-match.
"They will see we've (equalled) the record, they'll know we've (equalled) the record. This week was about Essendon ... next (Friday) will be about St Kilda," Longmuir said of the team.
"Where are we at? Round 10 - there's a long way to go. We're not the best team in the comp, we have work to do.
"Having said that, we've set our season up well. I'm proud of what we've done so far, absolutely, but there's plenty of work to do.
"I talked to the players pretty bluntly after the game. It is what it is. They were frustrated - when they show frustration, you probably need to give them the answers."
Longmuir said the key difference between the two halves was contest. Fremantle were well on top in that area early, but Essendon fought their way back.
"People have a go at me and other coaches about talking about the contest, when they think it's all about ball movement. Contest usually gets you field position," he said.
Asked about the winning streak, Longmuir noted their best football is as good as any other side.
"But we're playing a little bit inconsistent ... we just need to try to bring the floor up a little bit," he said.
After starting the season with a wayward 8.14, Patrick Voss was best afield against his old club with five straight goals in the first half.
"He's been good this year and probably just hasn't cashed in on the opportunities he's created," Longmuir said.
