A Stirling couple’s dream of a tailor-made room for their disabled son will soon be realised thanks to the generosity of donors.
Stirling members of the public and companies all contributed towards £30,000 fundraising for little Mylo Scougall who has a rare genetic disorder.
Mylo will now get his very own extension comprising a bedroom and specially adapted wet room
Three-year-old Mylo who lives with mum Cara, dad David and sister Charley has UNC80 hypotonia and his speech and motor skills are limited.
If he is to walk in future it will only be with the aid of a walking frame.
The family’s fundraising target of £27,000 was reached this spring and work on building the extension started last week.
Stirling Council are to provide £25,000 towards the cost of the project and it is hoped the extension will be complete by the end of October.
Mylo’s mum Cara said: “It’s finally happening, all the hard work has paid off.
“It’s just really great to see things progress and how it’s all coming together.
“It is such a relief that Mylo is going to be settled in a room suitable for him.
“We’re all very happy – and can’t thank everyone who helped us enough.
“If it wasn’t for people’s generosity it just wouldn’t be happening.”
The final fundraiser was an afternoon tea at Stirling Highland Hotel in May attended by 90 people.
Cara added: “The afternoon tea was the culmination of a year and a half of fundraising.
“It was a wonderful day – not just because of the afternoon tea and the support we received, but we also got planning permission for Mylo’s extension that morning. I’ll never forget it.”
Other fundraisers have included dad David swimming with rays and sharks during a dive at Deep Sea World, North Queensferry, and a winter ball fundraiser at Stirling Rugby Club.
Stirling housebuilder Robertson Homes contributed £1,000 and other donations have come from a variety of fundraising events and individual donations.
Work at the Scougall’s Braehead home, carried out by Fallin builders George Bolton and Sons, started last week.
