Perth and Kinross Council is working towards installing 41 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers at Broxden which should be fully operational by the end of April.
It is part of plans to improve and expand the EV charging infrastructure across Perth and Kinross.
In addition improvements are being made to privately operated services with news emerging of six new high-power 150 kw ultra-rapid chargers being installed at Kinross Services.
Several councillors recently raised concerns about ageing EV infrastructure in Perth and Kinross at council meetings late last year.
At a meeting of Perth and Kinross Council in November 2022 SNP council leader Grant Laing told councillors - in response to questioning - that the existing chargers were "getting very old and so break down more frequently".
Councillors were later told work was under way to improve and expand the infrastructure.
PKC has now revealed plans to install 41 new chargers at Broxden Park and Ride in Perth which are expected to be fully operational by April.
On January 1 PKC began introducing a fee to charge electric vehicles.
A PKC spokesman told the Perthshire Advertiser: "The introduction of fees for charging will allow us to improve charging infrastructure on sites we run."
He added: "We currently have 47 chargers across Perth and Kinross, each of which can charge two vehicles at a time.
"Investment in our network includes the 41 new chargers being installed at Broxden. We’re also continuing to engage with external funders and charge point providers to expand the network to meet future demand."
Externally Moto Hospitality Ltd is currently working towards installing six new ultra-rapid chargers at its Kinross site. Concern had been raised over trees being felled to make way for the chargers.
A Moto spokesperson said: "Alongside our partners at GRIDSERVE, Moto is making preparations to install six new high-power minimum 150kw ultra-rapid chargers at its Kinross site, to supplement the existing three chargers currently available.
"Moto recognises the importance of natural spaces at our sites and trees are only removed when they absolutely have to be. On this occasion eight trees, of which four had become overgrown and were encroaching into parking spaces, had to be removed to ensure our chargers can be safely and securely implemented. We take our responsibility to the environment very seriously and will be replanting more trees than were felled at the Kinross site. As with any new implementation of critical EV infrastructure we have worked within all agreed upon guidelines and legislation."
