Wordle players were left scratching their head at today’s game - with some even suggesting that it has ‘ruined their day’.
The online game has blown up in popularity since it emerged late into last year.
Players are tasked with guessing a mysterious five-letter word in six attempts. The game gives you feedback on how close you are to a match with each attempt.
But a number of fans were left stumped with today’s streak killer.
If you’re in the habit of avoiding any hints or spoilers on the word of today, then it’s best you give the next few paragraphs a miss.
The Wordle word of the day today was ‘cater’.
And with a high number of words containing the same ending four letters, many people were left without the win for today.
Several players took to social media to post their disappointment at being unable to get the word, with ‘Wordle 270 X’ even trending on Twitter this morning.
One person wrote: “I’ve never been outplayed this hard.”
Another added: “My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined no one talk to me.”
A third commented: “Nooooo! This first failure after 70 games really hurts.”
Earlier this year, it was revealed that the New York Times had paid a low seven figure fee to acquire the rights to Wordle.
The US newspaper described the game as ‘stimulating’ and ‘wildly popular’ when announcing the deal.
Many have joked that Wordle has become harder since the publication took over from creator and Welsh-born software engineer Josh Wardle.
The New York Times later clarified that ‘no changes’ will be made to the gameplay and the game will remain free to play for new and existing players.
