Wor Flags' display against Brentford celebrates the Newcastle United takeover

Wor Flags' biggest display yet has celebrated the anniversary of the sale of Newcastle United to Amanda Staveley, Jamie Reuben and Public Investment Fund. The group turned St James' Park into a sea of flags prior to the game against Brentford.

In the Gallowgate, there was a giant television with images capturing the day of the takeover - including the front page of The Chronicle from October 8th which simply read 'sold.' There was also a flag of Staveley and her statement when she told reporters waiting outside her hotel the deal was 'done', as well as pictures of fans celebrating outside of St James' Park on the day.

There was also a tweet from Staveley's husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi from the day where he posted 'cans,' a phrase now famous with fans. Simon Jordan also got a mention with his infamous 'deader than a dead thing from dead land' declaration on the takeover.

Yet perhaps the most impressive element of the display was the moving yellow ticker - as seen on Sky Sports News - that moved across the Gallowgate End. It contained different quotes said by players, fans and owners.

The rest of the stadium was filled with the popular waver flags. The group had spent the international breaking preparing the display.

One member, Thomas Concannon said: "With a display of this size there was a lot of debate but we, as always, arrived at what we wanted to do. We always knew we wanted to do something big for this game with it being one year on since the takeover. It was really important that we did something about it as we've all recognised the change in the club.

"For this display, we just had to go massive for it. We had a new feature that we'd never tried before in that the display had moving parts. It was a challenge, and one we were anxious about and a couple were having sleepless nights but it looked amazing."

Wor Flags had put out a rallying call to fans to take part in the display. Looking back on the last 12 months as a group, Thomas added: "The last 12 months, it feels incredible as a group. It feels like we've done a lifetime of displays in just the last year.

"We've progressed as a group and gone on to do things bigger and better than we did before we stopped the displays. For us, it's a challenge to keep thinking of new things and hopefully, we've done this with this display.

"It'll give a nod to everything we've been through as a football club, to that day in October 2021, to the celebrations and to what we've gone on to be in these past 12 months.

"This banner that will go up in the Gallowgate needs to remain static. If it doesn't it will ruin the display. We are relying on the entire Gallowgate End being involved in this display."
