Woodford Gray Group eyes ambitious financial target in first year of business

A start-up recruitment firm is eyeing a turnover of more than £1 million in its first year after getting off to a 'really good start'.

Earlier this year, experienced recruiter Scott Daly stepped down from his role as director at IT services solutions business Certes to follow his dream of running his own business.

Now the 41-year-old has launched the Woodford Gray Group after 'six months of meticulous planning'.

Scott, who lives in Stoke-on-Trent, said: "Woodford Gray Group came about out of a mixture of things really – Certes was going in a new direction and moving away from traditional recruitment, I hit the age of 40 and I've always wanted to work for myself.

“I sat down with my wife and children and talked about potentially starting on my own. I've been in the industry for 20 years, so we decided that it was the right time for me to do my own thing.

"There's been a transition period at Certes, but I officially stepped down in January and started the Woodford Gray Group the following month. It’s like all of the stars aligned."

Woodford Gray Group is a tech, change and data recruitment specialist, which supports businesses across the UK to 'hire, retain and grow'.

It operates across a variety of sectors including financial services, insurance, healthcare and food and beverage to fill both permanent and contract roles.

Scott said: "We work with companies that are in 'hyper-growth' mode – usually private equity or venture capital-backed firms – which have an amazing brand and strategy.

"We partner with those types of businesses and help them to grow and scale by bringing in the right talent at the right time."

Scott added: "What makes us different is the way that we approach our customers, we develop intimate relationships which means we are really able to understand their culture, their core values and what makes them tick.

"Our focus is on building relationships and putting the customer first."

Over the next 18 months, Woodford Gray Group is looking to expand its workforce to enable it to achieve its ambitious financial target. It is also preparing to relocate to a new office at the Genesis Centre in Tunstall next month.

Scott said: "We want to hit a turnover of £1.2 million in the first year – that's the dream.

"But the only way we can do that is to bring other people into the business, so the plan is to hire three fee-earners and an administrator in the next year.

"We are also looking to expand into Europe on the back of relationships that I have already developed in places like Denmark."
