Women's FA Cup fourth round: Who Manchester City and United will face

Manchester City and Manchester United have both learned who they will face in the fourth round of the Women's FA Cup.

The FA Cup draw took place Monday evening and revealed that United will play the winners of round three: Blackburn Rovers vs Sunderland whereas City will play the victors of Sheffield United vs Nottingham Forest.

United are third in the WSL table following their 1-1 draw in the derby and will face a Championship side when they enter the cup.

Potential opponents Blackburn are eighth in the second tier with 12 points from 10 games and Sunderland are one place from bottom with seven points, also from 10 league games.

Both teams are familiar with the match-up as they compete in second-tier football and thus have played each other seven times before, with Sunderland winning four times and Blackburn winning three. The most recent head-to-head was in early November, Blackburn were victorious with a 1-0 win from a late goal by Ellie Leek.

On the other side of Manchester, City are one place behind United in the WSL with potential rivals of Championship side Sheffield United or Nottingham Forest who compete in the FA Women's National League Premier North Division - the third tier of Women’s football.

Forest have had a convincing FA Cup run: a 6-0 win over Oughtibridge War Memorial Women followed by a 5-1 defeat of Wem Town in round two, and also sit strong in second place in their league with 22 points from nine games.

While for Sheffield, the third round is their first in the competition. League wise they are 10th with seven points from nine games and come into the fixture having lost eight games on the bounce in all competitions.

It will be the first time Sheffield United and Forest meet on Sunday 8th of January before heading to the Academy Stadium.
