Inspired Indigenous fighters Shanell Dargan and Amber Amelia are plotting to upstage Tim Tszyu on a momentous weekend for their people, Australia and women's boxing.
Featuring on the undercard of Tszyu's pay-per-view world-title bout with American Brian Mendoza, Dargan (2-1, 2KOs) and Amelia (3-1, 1KO) will square off for the vacant Australian super-bantamweight title on Sunday.
The historic stoush at the Gold Coast Convention Centre marks the first time two Indigenous boxers have fought for a national super-bantamweight belt and takes place a day after the voice referendum.
"We're both very, very proud Indigenous women and this is a very significant weekend as well and I'm very excited," Dargan said on Friday.
"We might steal the show, I believe, being the only girls on here. We have a lot to prove.
"This is an amazing experience and to fight for an Australian title, I think that's what every boxer wants to do.
"To get the opportunity to do that, especially with the new belt that has the Indigenous flag on it now, it makes it even sweeter."
Amelia is tipping an epic battle.
"This fight is going to be, in my opinion, an eight-round war. Both of our styles that we bring together is going to make for a really good fight," she said.
"It's always been a dream of mine to fight for this belt so I feel very honoured to have the opportunity and especially against Shanell.
"She's a good boxer. I can't wait. It's an awesome opportunity on the undercard of Tim Tszyu and for us girls to fight for a title as well."
