Women's Aid issue 'love bombing' relationship warning

Women's Aid have revealed that 93% of women in abusive relationships have been threatened by their partner that they will share intimate images of them online.

And 72% of women said that their partner demands to look through their phone and know their passwords. The quiz is a part of the 'Too into you' campaign which is ran by the service, which offers support to women in abusive relationships.

'Too into you' is aimed at mainly young women who may mistake acts of love for abusive red flags. Speaking at a pop up shop at Henry Street yesterday, Mary from Women's Aid told Dublin Live: "We are really trying to raise awareness about the red flags of abuse and the difference between healthy and unhealthy behaviours."

Mary added that although it may seem normal that your partner wants to look through your phone it can actually be a sign that your partner does not trust you, which can lead to a toxic relationship. The quiz has now been taken by over 20,000 people since it was launched last year.

Mary told Dublin Live that love bombing is also a concern that emerged from the quiz. "Love bombing can be something that happens at the beginning of a relationship," she explained. " It can come in the form of your partner demanding all of your attention and excessive gifts which can leave you feeling like you can't say no or you owe them something in return."

At the pop up event there were some phrases your partner might tell you such as 'I was just drunk', or 'that's not the real me', which Mary advices to be mindful of as they could be red flags of verbal abuse. There is free support offered to anyone who thinks their relationship might be abusive on the Women's Aid website.
