From women-led theatre groups to women artistes, technicians, directors and scriptwriters, the contribution of women to the art form is gradually increasing in the state.
J Shailaja, who is one of the founding members of NATAK, an association of theatre artistes with over 6,500 members says, “Earlier, everyone who was part of theatre was called Nadi (actress), but that was due to a lack of understanding of the art. There is the technical side and production side, and now, we see more women in these sections, too.”
