A woman weighing 47st has died just before she could undergo a life-saving operation in Turkey gifted to her by an anonymous donor.
Hrystina Sekulova, from Dupnitsa in Bulgaria, had been offered the chance of a new life to reverse the health complications that came with her 660lb frame.
Hrystina began gaining weight 10 years ago after a traumatic incident.
She recalled going to visit a friend who then proceeded to lash her sick husband with a belt in front of her.
After witnessing the horrific assault, she went home to her parents and developed a number of psychiatric symptoms.
It turned out that witnessing the beating had triggered bipolar disorder in the young woman.
Bipolar disorder - a mental health which carries a particular stigma and is widely misunderstood - is largely characterised by an inability to control mood.
Moods can swing from very positive, which is usually known as mania, before plummeting to depressive episodes.
The condition is usually treated with medicine, which can also lead to extreme weight gain in many cases.
After she started taking the mood stabilisers, she rapidly piled on the pounds which resulted in her becoming essentially immobilised.
It got so bad that she was unable to stand by herself for more than a few minutes, meaning that she was unable to leave home.
Because of her weight and being unable to leave home, she had to drop out of school and work.
Her grieving mum revealed that she had "sorrow in her heart" after her beloved daughter passed away yesterday.
At the end of last year, another woman considered one of the world's fattest who was left bed-bound, is now completely unrecognisable after life-changing surgery.
Christina Phillips, from Mississippi, was just 22 when she underwent gastric bypass surgery after her weight ballooned to a staggering 700lbs.
She first appeared on the TV series "My 600-lb Life" in 2012 and told producers: "I'm trapped inside this body that I don't want to be in."
In addition, she described how walking to her bedroom would leave her out of breath and admitted she hadn't left her house in more than two years following her weight problems.
She claimed her desire to overeat was down to her mum and dad who would let her munch on fast-food snacks as she struggled to control her diet.
A few years earlier in 2017, the woman thought to hold the record for heaviest in the world also underwent the surgery.
Eman Ahmed, 36, was pictured lying in bed after surgeons reduced her 79 stone bulk by almost a fifth (16 stone).
She had not left her home for 25 years prior to the surgery.
She was lifted out of her bed by crane and put on a cargo plane for the journey from her Egypt home to India.
