Woman urged to dump boyfriend after he refused to let her dog out to pee

When a couple move in together, the decision to get a pet is a big one - but if one partner entering the relationship already owns a furry companion, it can be extra tricky. A woman is ranting about her partner online after he refused to let her dog out to pee while he was at home.

The cruel man justified his actions by saying he didn't want to "spoil" the dog, or train him to "expect it". The whole scenario has made her rethink the relationship and she says this could be "the final straw" - with Reddit users encouraging her to dump him too.

The viral Reddit post said: "I have a dog 'Spud' I got before we got together. I would never ask or expect Tommy to ever care for him in anyway, normally."

But while her boyfriend 'Tommy' was home from work for three days, she expected him to let Spud outside in the garden to pee - however, he simply refused.

She explained: "He said, 'No, I won't, because then he'll expect it' and [Tommy] didn't want to 'spoil' him by letting him out during the day.

"I told him he didn't need a full walk, but a couple minutes to pee on the lawn would make him feel better, but Tommy still insisted he didn't care."

The couple have been living together for two years and Spud has been in her life much longer than that.

The thread received more than 13,000 upvotes and 1,700 comments with people slamming Tommy for not letting Spud out during his time at home.

Many users were shocked to learn why he wouldn't and said it wasn't a bizarre reason.

"I genuinely don't understand Tommy's reasoning at all. Spoil a dog by letting him out to pee? What?" someone said.

"Tommy's behaviour is atrociously callous to poor Spud and shocking that he would act offended at your concern," another agreed.

Lots of people told her to break up with Tommy, with one commenting: "Keep the dog, rehome the man" and another saying: "Spuds before duds."

A user wrote: "This absolutely is a dumping offence. He was happy to let your dog suffer? How could you be with someone like that?"

In an update, the woman said: "I've been rethinking my relationship with Tommy over several other issues, but this is likely the final straw. I might rehome Tommy as another user suggested, but have been thinking about getting Spud a sibling."
