Woman unable to have children due to incurable condition doctors first dismissed as 'bad periods'

A woman has lost the chance to have children due to an incurable condition that doctors first dismissed as "bad periods" when she was younger.

As reported by the ECHO, Chrissie May Smith, 42, started experiencing "severe lower abdominal pain", back pain and irregular periods when she was just 17 years old. However, doctors at the time dismissed it as "bad periods", but after collapsing at home "feeling like a knife had cut across her stomach", she was rushed to hospital with a suspected ruptured appendix.

The real culprit was revealed to be a ruptured cyst caused by endometriosis. Chrissie said: "I was relieved because I knew it wasn't in my head. After being told for so long that something is in your head, when you're only young as well, you start to believe it."
