An online sustainable fashion business based in Dublin is spreading the message that people need to be more mindful about where they get their clothes from.
Agite Closet is founded by Monica Martienz from Barcelona, who after working in Spanish retail store Stradivarius for 16 years since she was 16 years old moved to Ireland in 2021 for more career opportunities. She said the Covid-19 pandemic gave her time to reflect on her busy life.
She told Dublin Live: "During the pandemic when life was slowed down I realised I could live with less. I enjoyed the simple things and no longer wanted a hectic life where I was always wanting more. As my job was very busy, it was time for a change."

She added: "I had the commercial knowledge from working in retail for so long and I had always loved fashion since I was a child. That is when I decided to set up Agite Closet which is all about people being able to buy good quality pre loved pieces for your wardrobe.
I go to Italy and Spain myself to handpick the clothes from wholesalers that we work with. I usually go every two months. I was attempting to pick out the clothes virtually at one stage but it was really difficult. Even though it is a high cost to the company for me to travel I think it is worth it. All of the clothes the business sell are hand picked."
At the moment the business is a one woman show as Monica said she has a friend who helps her do videos for the social media accounts but she does the majority of the work.
Speaking about why people should buy more sustainably, Monica said: "I know so many people like to shop in places like Zara, H&M and Penneys because a lot of the time the clothes are affordable. I know people what clothes at a cheap price but you have to think about how the person who made the item is getting paid and often times paying a higher price means you get a better quality item for your wardrobe."
Monica said her tips for trying to change the way you shop start with going through your wardrobe to see what you already own. She said "I would encourage people to go through their wardrobe and divide the clothes into winter and sping/summer. If there is something that you own that you haven't worn in two years it is definitely time to donate it.
When purchasing items make sure that you already own pieces that you know will go with it and if it is possible shop from charity shops or places like our business so you know the shop is ethical."
Monica and Agite Closet will be at The Mart in Rathmines with a pop-up shop on May 6 and 7. You can also have a look at the latest Spring collection on their website.
