A woman was nabbed by gardai for taking a ‘selfie’ behind the wheel on her way to a wedding.
The woman, who was stopped by gardai on the N76 between Callan and Kilkenny on Friday, ended up receiving a fine of €120 and three penalty points for holding her mobile phone while driving.
The incident unfolded while gardai from the Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit were slowing down motorists for a road hazard.

The woman, driving what gardai described as “a very smart Mercedes”, was one of many motorists being warned to slow down because of the hazard.
However, it was then that officers observed her at the wheel in the process of taking a selfie.
It emerged she was getting ready for a wedding later and was taking the selfie to check her outfit and look with her friends.
Warning other motorists it is illegal and dangerous to hold a mobile phone while driving, gardai posted on Garda Siochana Waterford/Kilkenny/Carlow Facebook page that it is “Not the place for it.”
“Our Roads Policing Unit was on the N76 between Callan and Kilkenny slowing down motorists for a road hazard when a very smart Mercedes approached,” a garda spokesperson explained in a post on the official An Garda Siochana Facebook page.
“At the wheel a lady was in the process of taking a selfie,” a garda spokesperson said.
“A vehicle stop later revealed the motorist was getting ready for a wedding later and checking the look with others.”
The woman received a €120 fine and three penalty points for her actions.
