Woman shares 'terrifying but clever' hack to stay safe while in Uber

A woman has gone viral after sharing a "terrifying but clever" tip for staying safe while travelling in a taxi or Uber. The woman, known only as Brennalina, posted a TikTok video of the hack she uses every time she gets into a cab after taking inspiration from another user on the social media platform, as reported by The Mirror.

Sharing the clip, she explained: "Ever since a girl on TikTok said she leaves hair and fingerprints in all her Ubers, I leave hair and fingerprints in all my Ubers." In the video, the woman leaves a strand of her hair in the footwell of the backseat and pressing her fingers against the window.

This means there are two samples of her DNA in the car, which could be used as evidence should something happen to her during the taxi trip. She captioned her post: "Ladies, am I right? #lovebeingawoman" Many commenters praised her for sharing the trick, but also shared their "sadness" that woman need to take such precautions. One user wrote: "Sad but genius."

Another added: "Terrifying and clever at the same time." Others were also quick to share their own safety tips, with many stating that you should always open the door again after you get into the car to make sure that the driver hasn't put the child lock on to prevent you from leaving. A third said: "Get in, open the door again always. Act like it didn't close right. Make sure there's no child lock on!"

Someone else commented: "I always pretend I'm on the phone with someone as I enter. I'll usually be like, 'Ok I'm getting in the Uber, I'll send you my location. Love you, bye'." Another wrote: "Set your Uber name to a guy's name. It will look like your dad/boyfriend/boss ordered it for you, thus you have someone waiting for you."

Other commenters also encouraged everyone to always check the number plate of the car with the one provided on the rideshare app. One person stressed: "The Uber app lets you set the option of a unique pin that the Uber driver has to enter before you leave so you know for sure you're in the right car."
