Woman shares her journey to finding a flat to rent in Bristol

A woman has shown the reality of trying to find a flat to rent in Bristol during the current housing crisis. From not hearing back about an offer, to finding the property has already been rented by someone else, she seems to have experienced all the drama when it came to finding the perfect place to live.

TikTok user Saz - username @shedot.travels - took to the platform to share her experiences of trying to find the perfect flat for her and her boyfriend to move into. Compiling her journey into a mini series of videos, Saz shared all the gory details of the renting world in Bristol and also Bath.

While she has now found a place to live, she shared some great insight into how competitive the market actually is at the moment.

Throughout her mini-series, Saz takes viewers round five of the properties she viewed when trying to find a flat. During the videos she details whether she liked the property, what she liked and disliked as well as what the space, storage and facilities were like.

In one video, Saz takes the viewers around a flat she has gone to view in Clifton, an area she desperately wants to live in. The property itself seemed to tick all of her boxes, with ample space, large rooms and plenty of storage space. A few things like the shower weren’t exactly to her taste, but she said she could get over that, especially with the rest of the flat being so good.

Having loved the flat so much, she shared that she had raced home and filled out the application form straight away, only to find out that it had already been rented out to another viewer. And while Saz shared her disappointment at losing out, people in the comments section shared how she had managed to get a lucky escape.

One commenter said: “Honestly dodged a bullet, my flat and everyone I know in Clifton has such a bad mould problem in these old buildings.”

A second wrote: “I think you had a lucky escape, storage heaters and an immersion heater for your water are expensive and not very controllable!”

With a third highlighting a similar point: “Storage heaters are rubbish, single glazing so heat escapes and looks like it would get mould just looking at it. Don’t feel too bad.”

But this isn’t the first time Saz has experienced disappointment when going for a flat. In another video she shared how she and her partner never heard back about a flat they had expressed interest in renting. These experiences just show how competitive and turbulent the renting world is at this point in time.
