Cooking the Christmas dinner can be a stressful task if not organised properly.
Preparing the holiday feast must be carefully timed out and one mistake could throw you completely off schedule. As a result, many home cooks are looking for tips to streamline the process.
Luckily, one woman has shared a nifty hack for cooking potatoes that won't leave you wasting time on peeling. Professional meal planner Claire has taken to social media to share her cooking tips for "fuss free" meals and one includes the best way to save time on cooking your roasties - by freezing them!
Known as @deliciousandreal on TikTok, the cooking expert shared a video for a "stress-free Christmas dinner". All you have to do is parboil your spuds, then place them in a freezer safe bag to be cooked on the day.
Posting instructions in the caption, Claire wrote: "Peel, chop, pat boil, roughen up, add flour and oil, cool, freeze. Heat your oil and cook from frozen - 20 minutes on high; turn, reduce heat and cook for another 40 minutes."
The parboiling partially cooks the potatoes and the process takes about ten minutes. Once this is done, leave them to cool then coat them in flour, which will create a crispy coating when roasted.
Once Christmas Day comes around, all you have to do is pre heat your cooking oil on a pan, then add the frozen potatoes and cook for the advised time. Having your spuds peeled and ready to go will leave plenty of time for other dishes.
Viewers were quick to praise the "amazing" idea, with some backing up Claire's suggestion. "I tried this a while back it worked a treat. have you tried with other root vegetables? I'm thinking of trying for Christmas."
Other cooks were quick to offer suggestions on how to use the hack with other vegetables: "Do this with parsnips but dip them into a flour/Parmesan mix before freezing. They're unreal."
"Just spent my afternoon doing this and my carrots and parsnips, saves so much time Christmas day out the freezer and in the oven," said another.
"That's amazing. Thank you", read one comment, while another said: "Wowee never thought this could be possible."
Explaining why this method is the best way to go, one person said: "Always better when they're cooler, dries them out so they're crispier!"
"Now this is a good idea," to which Claire replied: "Anything that makes Christmas dinner easier is good by me!!!"
