A woman is set to make a profit of thousands after discovering an old trunk that her dad bought for her at a bric-a-brac shop is worth far more than he paid for it.
Melissa, 56, brought the rare Louis Vuitton trunk along to the Antiques Roadshow, where she was stunned to learn its true value after her dad bought it for just £12 back in 1984. She used the 100-year-old trunk for many years as a place to store sheets and linen - until she noticed that Louis Vuitton items kept cropping up on the BBC show.
The trunk has been authenticated by the designer brand, with a serial number indicating that it was originally sold between 1909 and 1914. When Melissa brought it along to the Roadshow as it stopped off in Richmond upon Thames, it was valued by an expert at £3,000-£5,000 - but it could be worth even more, the Liverpool Echo reports .

The trunk is set to be offered for auction in London this weekend, going under the hammer in 30 July for a guide price of £4,000-£6,000. It comes with a copy of the Guardian newspaper with a date of 3 September 1984 - the day Melissa’s dad bought the trunk.
Melissa said that her dad gifted her the trunk to use when the family moved up north due to a lack of storage in her first flat. After many years taking care of the gift - including covering it up to protect it from her foster cats “using it as a scratching post” - Melissa said: “I think it’s time for someone else to own and appreciate it.”
