Woman’s house and car covered in bird poo as neighbour won’t stop feeding pigeons

A woman claims her home and car are constantly covered in bird poo thanks to her inconsiderate neighbour. On the popular forum Mumsnet the woman shared a post saying her neighbour continues to feed the birds "large quantities of bread" every morning after being asked to stop.

As a result the woman said she is often woken up at around 6.30am to "squawking" birds "thudding" around wanting to be fed. She explained she was also left to clean her property which is always covered in bird poo after the morning feed.

On the 'am I being unreasonable' thread she wrote: "My neighbour throws large quantities of bread on her front garden around 7am every morning. As the mornings are getting lighter now the pigeons and gulls start arriving on my roof from around 6.30am and run up and down and squawking until they get fed. I sleep right underneath and get woken daily by them thudding about above my head. It's going to get earlier as the mornings get lighter.

"She doesn't even get any pleasure from watching the birds. I've seen her throwing the bread as she leaves the house to take the dog for a walk. She doesn't see them fighting over the bread then sh***ing all over my stuff. I've constantly got bird poo splattered over my car, my drive, and my windows.

"If she wants to feed birds I have no problem with her feeding small birds using bird feeders with seed and fat balls etc. It's feeding the large noisy birds that is the problem. I've asked her several times not to do it and also said bread isn't good for birds so she's actually not being helpful. I've also asked her to feed them later in the day as a compromise. She refuses to listen though and keeps doing it early morning.

"I've tried the council but they said it's a civil matter between neighbours and we have to sort it out ourselves. I'm particularly grumpy this morning as I've had a tough week at work and I'm under the weather with a heavy cold. I was looking forward to a lie-in this morning but I was woken up early by the sodding birds. Am I being unreasonable to think she should stop feeding birds?"

Mumsnet users agreed that she was not being unreasonable and shared their similar experiences. One commenter said: "We had a similar issue with a random man choosing to feed the local wildlife on what was actually someone's property. They got rats as well as the pigeons."

One user added: "It's so annoying that she is continuing to do this early, even when you've asked her to stop." Another suggested: "If the council can’t or won’t help could you send a letter advising that you will require payment for regular cleaning of your car and drive etc."
