Woman's body found partially buried under apartment block had been there for SEVEN years

The body of a woman that was found partially buried in the basement of an apartment block had been there for at least seven years, police have said.

The remains were found by cleaners in the garage of a building in Alderley, Queensland, Australia, on December 7, 2022.

The body, wrapped in a tight plastic bag, was partially buried and hidden behind a brick wall, police said.

After launching an investigation, cops confirmed the remains belonged to a woman whose identity has not been confirmed yet.

Since the discovery of her remains, police have been trying to establish her identity, putting together pieces of information they have found out during their investigation.

The woman was Caucasian, 155-165cm tall and aged between 30 and 55 years old at the time of her death, according to police.

The woman, who wore size 10 clothing, had dark brown hair and wore prescription glasses.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said: "One of the biggest pieces of the jigsaw puzzle is the identification of the victim."

Police revealed there was "trauma" to the woman's body and that her death is being treated as suspicious, reports ABC News.

Mr Massingham said: "Whoever … has put the person there has attempted to conceal the body fairly unsuccessfully.

"(They) have taken great care to wrap the body up in a certain way and preserve it.

"They've also transported it to an area that’s not readily accessible.

Past and current residents are being interviewed by the police (Nine)

"Whether it was their intention to leave it there, or come and get it at some later time and they simply haven’t, is part of what we’ll be looking at."

Mr Massingham said the woman likely died between 2009 and 2015 but it is not clear whether she died at the unit complex or in a different location.

He said police believed the body was in the building in November 2015, but it is "credible" that the woman died in 2009, reports 9News.

He explained: "Investigations have revealed the woman has been deceased for at least seven years and her body is believed to have been at the unit block where she was located in early December, for that period of time.

"My belief is that they've definitely been here in situ since November 2015. As to their location prior to that, it is unclear if they were at another location or moved here."

Police are working to identify the woman (Nine)

Mr Massingham said police are interviewing all past and current residents of the apartment block - which was built in 2006 - so far the lady has not been identified.

Cops are now appealing to anyone who lived in Alderley Avenue or in the area between 2009 and 2015 to come forward with any information that may help identify the woman.

Mr Massingham added: "If you have any information relating to a female who fits this description that may have been a colleague, a friend, an associate who simply disappeared for you to contact Crime Stoppers.

"It's important that we give this lady a voice, that we identify her … and hopefully find out the true circumstances of this tragic death."
