A woman was rescued from the River Avon in Bristol in the early hours of Friday morning (July 7). Residents of the Bedminster area spotted a search helicopter hovering over the water near Bedminster Bridge shortly after midnight.
Avon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene, with other crews from nearby also attending. Emergency workers were able to rescue a woman from the water.
The fire service confirmed: "On July 7 at 12:34 am we were called to reports of a person in the river near Bedminster Bridge. Crews from Bedminster, Bath and Temple responded to the incident and rescued one female from the water."

Those awake in the early hours of this morning may have noticed the emergency service presence in South Bristol, with one resident seeing "lots of blue light and activity" near the Asda roundabout. The helicopter searchlight was seen on the river's surface and fire engines were "surrounding the river on every side", according to witnesses.
Witnesses then saw someone being tended to by emergency workers at the bottom of the riverbank.
