Woman partially deaf since childhood only realises at check up in her 70s

It's not easy to live in a silent world, a disabled woman has said as she urges people to treat those with disabilities with more respect and normality.

Margaret Guppy, who lives in Aigburth, was just 28 when she caught an "unusual" eye condition from a wild animal while living on a farm and became visually impaired. As the years went by, her eyesight worsened and she required the support of guide dogs.

But she is also partially deaf, having been hard of hearing since having mumps as a child, but she was not aware of this until a few years back as she thought "everyone heard like that". Being deafblind has come with its struggles, but most of all is the lack of respect and knowledge from other people over the years that has frustrated Margaret most.
