Woman on the run after fleeing HMP Styal as police launch appeal

A woman has gone on the run after fleeing HMP Styal while on day release.

Jennifer Touray, an inmate at the women's jail near Wilmslow, Cheshire, disappeared while on leave from the prison earlier this week. She was due to return at 5pm on Monday (October 31), but failed to do so.

A police search has been launched for the 38-year-old, who is believed to have links to Greater Manchester, as well as Merseyside and Yorkshire.

She was last seen wearing a black coat, white top and black leggings, black and white Nike trainers and wearing a silver band ring, according to Cheshire Police.

The force has issued a public appeal for help and has urged anyone with information about Jennifer's whereabouts to get in touch.

HMP Styal, a former orphanage, was first opened as a women’s prison in 1962 to serve female inmates from Strangeways prison in Manchester.

Anyone who sees Touray, or Touray herself, is urged to call Cheshire Constabulary on 101 quoting IML 1401901 or visit the Cheshire Police website.

Information can also be passed on anonymously, via the Crimestoppers website or by calling 0800 555 111.
