Woman, life, freedom: Artists reflect on six months of protest in Iran

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24

A rallying cry that started in the streets of Teheran is now a slogan of female solidarity that echoes around the world. Six months after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, we look at the protest movement that has mobilised hundreds of thousands of people in Iran and seen Iranian artists in exile expressing their support. Writer Naïri Nahapétian tells us about the gap between the people she meets in Iran and their desire for freedom, and those punishing the protesters. Artist Hura Mirshekari compares her arrival in France to a bird, finally able to fly; her live musical and artistic performances would be illegal in her native Iran. Both women express their cautious optimism about this pivotal moment, and look ahead to the change that they hope is now inevitable.
