A young woman left for dead after a violent gang attack has said that she was in “the wrong place at the wrong time” warning: “Anyone could have been the victim.”
The brave hairdresser in her mid 20s has spoken out about the unprovoked assault on Market Street in Galway at the hands of five thugs.
She told Galway Beo she was punched to the ground by a woman, repeatedly kicked by a man and left unconscious in a pool of blood.
She said: “I was walking down by the alleyway and there were people already there, a group of 5 or 6 and I happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“These girls started taunting me. One of them said something to me and the next thing I was punched and fell to the floor.
“I got up and crossed the road down at Kozzy’s barbers and I got attacked from behind. I fell to the floor again and hit my head off the ground.
“I was beaten nearly to death, my face was covered in blood and I was unconscious. I suffered bad injuries to my face.
“It was an unprovoked assault, I didn’t know these people at all. I’ve never seen them before.”
The woman suffered two black eyes and cuts to her face and lips and was rushed to hospital where she underwent a CT scan.
She said: “I’m really afraid to even go on a night out again. Mentally I’m just shocked because I’m a good person, I’d never start any drama and I would keep myself to myself.
“It could have happened to anyone, wrong place, wrong time.”
Gardai confirmed they are investigating an assault on a woman in her 20s at around 2.40am on Sunday February 6 at Market Street in Galway.
