The woman who was killed after being hit by a car in a Cork village following her uncle's funeral has been named locally as Gobnait Twomey.
The physiotherapist, who had lived in Dublin, was down in her home village of Ballingeary on Monday to pay respects to her uncle Willie who passed away last Friday.
Gobnait, who was in her 50s, attended a gathering at a pub in the village afterwards with her family, Cork Beo reports.
She was hit while walking home at around 1.10 am along with two other women.
She was pronounced dead at the scene while the two other women, in their 40s, were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
A man in his 40s was arrested and is being currently detained at Bandon Garda Station.
Gobnait had recently graduated from UCD with a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy and had been working as a caregiver. She comes from a large family who are well known in the area and heavily involved in local GAA.
Tributes have been pouring in from the shocked community, with local Cllr Martin Coughlan describing it as a "pure tragedy".
He said: "It's very hard on the family particularly with it being so close to Christmas. I would offer my condolences to the family."
Local Councillor Gobnait Moynihan told CorkBeo: "The community in Ballingeary are in a state of shock, with the news getting out this morning of a terrible accident that hit a local family who had already buried somebody just hours before.
The scene remained closed off through Tuesday, while gardai have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed what happened to come forward.
