Woman injured after bricks hurled from overpass

A woman has been treated for eye injuries after bricks were thrown from an overpass, smashing car windscreens and injuring a motorist on a freeway.

Three youths were seen throwing the bricks from an overpass on the Princes Highway in Springvale about 1am on Saturday, police say.

At least five cars were damaged, two significantly, when bricks were hurled into their windscreens.

Paramedics treated a woman after glass fragments struck her eyes.

Multiple cars also received punctured tyres due to the large amount of debris caused by the bricks.

Detective Senior Constable Simon Jacobs says it's extremely lucky that only one person suffered minor injuries.

"Throwing bricks from an overpass is not harmless behaviour," he continued.

"This incident clearly demonstrates that such actions have serious and potentially fatal consequences."

It is not the first time an incident like this has occurred.

In 2023, a couple driving on a busy freeway near Frankston was hit by a large rock while travelling at 100km/h, shattering their windscreen.

The couple pulled over, and found dozens of rocks left on the freeway.

Police are yet to make an arrest for the Springvale crime, and detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
