Part of a busy Heywood road has been closed off this afternoon after a collision which left an elderly pedestrian in a serious condition.
The A58 Rochdale Road East is currently closed in both directions after an incident at the Green Lane junction, with a police cordon in place. The road has been closed since around 2pm today (March 17).
North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) says it was called out to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian. A large emergency services response descended on the area.

The pedestrian - a woman aged in her 80s - was rushed to hospital. NWAS says she is in a serious condition.
A spokesperson for NWAS told the Manchester Evening News : "We responded to an RTC involving a pedestrian. A woman in her 80s was taken hospital in a serious condition by road.
"An ambulance, response vehicle, an advanced paramedic and a helimed crew attended."
Police remain at the scene following the collision, with part of the Rochdale Road East cordoned off near to Green Lane. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area, while bus services are being affected.
In a post on Twitter, a Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson said: "Rochdale Road East, Heywood. Road closed in both directions at the junction on Green Lane due to a police incident. Use an alternative route for journeys between Rochdale and Heywood."
A spokesperson for Diamond Bus wrote on Twitter: "There has been an incident is Heywood which has meant the main road is closed. The incident is near Green Lane. We are diverting via Bamford Road, Bury/Rochdale Old Road, and down into Sudden to rejoin normal route - 471."
A Rosso Bus spokesperson added: "Due to an accident the B4 will not be stopping at Green Lane. The bus will be diverting via Rochdale Road East. Apologies for any inconvenience."
Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
