Woman gives birth to baby boy in Mangaluru-bound train

MANGALURU: A woman travelling on the West Coast Express delivered a baby boy inside a moving train as it was approaching the Central railway station in Mangaluru on Monday.

According to RPF inspector Manoj Kumar, the 29-year-old was travelling in train number 22637 West Coast Express that arrived at platform number 2 at 5.20am. Head constable Sunil Harrison and constable K Prabheesh were escorting the train.

They found the passenger Bharathi, a migrant labourer from Maharashtra, working in Coimbatore, had delivered a baby inside the train. She was travelling along with her family from Podanur Junction to Mangaluru in a general coach.

She gave birth to the baby while the train was approaching Mangaluru station, the officials said.

The staff immediately informed the station master who in turn provided necessary assistance to the family members and called for an ambulance.

At around 6.10 am, the ambulance arrived and the passenger was shifted to Government Lady Goschen Hospital in the city for further treatment.
