A woman got a coupon from Grease Monkey for an oil change. She says that the price it quoted her was far more than the advertised price.
In a TikTok with over 462,000 views as of this writing, Tori Kasside (@officialtorikasside) claims she believes the technicians at Grease Monkey were price gouging because she’s female.
“POV: Oil change place tries to take advantage as soon as they see women,” the onscreen text reads.
She claims that a tech told her she could use the coupon but that it would cost more than expected.
“That doesn’t make any sense. If it’s $149.99 for an oil change, how is it becoming $180 with a $15 coupon?” Kasside says she asked.
“It’s $149. That extra quart is $10. So it’s $159,” the employee purportedly explained.
According to Kasside, the Grease Monkey employee told her that her vehicle takes six quarts of oil and the coupon is for a standard five-quart oil change. The extra quart, she supposedly said, added $5 plus sales tax to the bill.
She reportedly retorted, “You can put that down. There’s no way you guys are price gouging me.”
In a follow-up post, Kasside says she still believes that they were taking advantage of her because of her gender.
“Just because I’m a female, doesn’t mean that I don’t [expletive] know about oil changes. Like bro, I worked at Jiffy Lube. I was a CSA,” she insists.
What Does The Grease Monkey Oil Change Coupon Say?
Many quick lube retailers promote their services with coupons. Sometimes these deals seem to be too good to be true or have unexpected restrictions on their use.
Grease Monkey says on its website that it currently has two coupons for oil changes. The offers include a $10 coupon for synthetic blend oil and $15 off full synthetic oil. Kasside says she tried to redeem the $15 coupon.
The coupon does note that it’s for five quarts of oil.
“Discount off regular price. Up to 5 quarts. Not valid with other offers. Charge for additional parts/services, if needed. No cash value. Taxes and/or disposal fees extra, where permitted. Void where prohibited,” Grease Monkey writes on its website.
How Much Should An Oil Change Cost?
Keeping up with oil changes is essential to maintain your vehicle. As oil prices rise, more people are considering doing this basic task themselves.

Doing an oil change yourself is cheaper in the long run, but there are some up-front costs to consider. The tools required range from $30 to $100. But over time, you will ultimately save money.

Viewers in the comments section were stunned by how much Kasside’s oil change cost.
“Who pays $149 for an oil change anywhere? That's ridiculous,” one person wrote.
Another agreed, “Girl $149 isn't right either.”
“Girl forget the coupon, why are we accepting over $100 quote for an oil change??” said another.
Several DIY car maintenance enthusiasts said they never spend three digits on an oil change.
“I’ve never paid more than $50 for an oil change,” one said.
“Girl you better start changing your own oil. I pay $25.00 for full synthetic oil, $5.00 for oil filter and $7.00 for oil treatment and I do it myself...takes me no longer than 20 minutes,” another said.
