Woman 'furious' after nibbling on 'strange-looking' rubber object in packet of Haribo

A woman had a nasty surprise when she bit into an odd-looking sweet in her packet of Haribo Rainbow Strips.

Shantelle, 30, from East Yorkshire, received the bag of sweets as part of her Tesco delivery on Sunday (October 2) but noticed a strange white object when she opened it up.

Dismissing it as just a rogue sweet included by mistake at the factory she didn't think much of it until she had a nibble.

Suddenly, she realised it was actually a piece of rubber, reports HullLive.

Shantelle has been completely "put off" Haribos now and wasn't happy with the company's lack of a "real apology" after contacting them.

She said: "I was looking forward to eating my packet of Haribos when they arrived in a Tesco delivery from St Stephen's.

"At first I thought the foreign object was just another sweet that had been put in the wrong packet so I nibbled on the end of it before realising it wasn't a sweet at all.

"It was quite a large piece of white rubber and was clearly a health and safety risk. I was completely put off eating any so left the full bag.

"I think it is absolutely disgusting that sweets aimed towards children could contain something like this. I am furious at Haribo and we didn't even receive a real apology.

"Haribo have asked us to send the sweets back to them for an investigation but I don't know if I trust them to actually follow through with it.

"I want them to prove something like this won't happen again," she added.

A spokesperson for Haribo UK said: "We were very sorry to see that Shantelle has had a problem with her latest purchase and would like to share our sincere apologies.

"As a responsible manufacturer, we take all complaints very seriously. Upon receiving the complaint on Monday morning, we immediately shared an apology and a request for the product to be returned.

"Once received, we will be able to conduct a thorough investigation.

"We can assure Shantelle that we will be looking into this as a matter of urgency and once again would like to express our apologies."
