Woman felt like she'd been 'punched in gut' after sister's pregnancy announcement

A woman has faced a scathing backlash online after a jealous reaction to her sister's pregnancy announcement. The unnamed 27-year-old took to Reddit to explain that she and her husband have been trying to have kids for some time but have not been successful since a tragic miscarriage last year. She claimed that she and her partner are both trying to come to terms with what happened but admits that there has been a struggle since their last pregnancy.

"I had a miscarriage last year which broke my heart. Nevertheless, me and my husband are trying to come to terms with everything and continue with our lives, but it's difficult. We thankfully have a lot of support from family which helps," she explained in a Reddit post. However, in a recent encounter with her sister who she has not seen in some time, the woman explained her sister dropped quite the bomb on her.

"A few days ago I met up with my sister for lunch (I haven't physically seen her in a few months but we texted), she looked like she'd gained a bit of weight but I assumed it was from work stress or something," she explained.

"She then dropped the tidbit that she was five months along. I was shocked, mainly because I didn't know she was in a serious relationship and she never mentioned pregnancy when we talked. She said that she slept with a guy she met at a club a couple times."

In her response to this news, the woman asked if their parents knew and was surprised at her sister for what happened as she had never exhibited a desire to have kids in the first place.

She said: "This sort of felt like a punch in the gut, that me and my husband have been trying for so long to have a baby and my sister, who never wanted kids in the first place is having one."

"I said to Jane I thought she said she didn't care to have kids, but Jane said that she feels 'different' now and this baby is a 'blessing'. I got kind of tired of this, so I told her that she knows full well about mine and Will's struggles, and she's acting like she's going to play happy families with some random's baby."

The woman added in the post that she has apologised as she knew she had gone too far with her sister.

However, the sister left the meeting and has yet to reply to any texts.

This reaction to her sister's pregnancy news has received a lot of backlash from other Redditors with one claiming, "You are being a jealous, self-centred sister. And it's an awful look."

While another said: "My sister never wanted children, and she's not a great mother. She has 4 boys. My husband and I have been struggling with infertility and miscarriages for 6 years. I've never once acted like you're acting. You're definitely in the wrong here."
