A young woman who suffered with a debilitating bowel condition but feared having a stoma bag fitted said the surgery has given her back her life.
Veterinary surgeon Emma Huntley was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2018, and experienced crippling symptoms including severe abdominal pain, vomiting, passing blood and having to go to the toilet up to 16 times a day. Eventually it caused part of her bowel to perforate.
Emma knew that fitting a stoma bag, which sits on the outside of your stomach to collect faeces, would help but feared how it would make her look. But when her symptoms got worse this year and she was left in excruciating pain, she felt she had no choice but to go ahead with the operation, reported Wales Online.
