Woman divides opinion over date when Christmas decorations should be taken down

A mum has split opinion online after revealing she wants to get the Christmas tree down as soon as she can after December 25.

The woman said she didn't take it down straight away for fear of appearing "unChristmassy" but admitted she is "itching" to get rid of it. She went onto Mumsnet to see if others shared her urge to get the home back to normal now that festivities are over.

Some were on-board, sharing their various reasons as to why they want the tree down as soon as possible. However, others admitted they were happy keeping it up until January, writes the Mirror.

The Mumsnet user explained: "I am always itching to do it on Boxing Day. I don't, but I want to. I usually last until New year's Eve, but I think this year has felt really unChristmassy and I want everything taken down now!"

They then asked: "I will keep it up for the kids but does anyone else just want it all put away?"

The post was met with varying responses with some saying that they have already seen neighbours getting rid of their trees.

One wrote: "Ours are half down, we're going away for New Year tomorrow and I don't want to get back in January and still have them up."

Another claimed: "I've been out today, already seen a few xmas trees by the bins."

However, some users stood by the 12th-night rule, which would see Christmas trees kept up until January 2 of 2023.

One user said: "2nd January. We're all back to work on the 3rd, so I want it done by then."

A second added: "Up first weekend of December, down first weekend of January."

And one shocked user commented: "Good grief. It's only Boxing Day. Bit too early to have them put away tbh. But each to their own and all that!"
