A woman has sadly died following a collision on the A690 near Ramside Hall Hotel in County Durham.
Police were called to a two-vehicle collision involving a Seat Leon and Volvo V70 at the junction with Pittington Lane at around 5.25pm on Saturday, July 2. Emergency services were called to the area and the road was closed for several hours.
Two patients were taken to hospital, including the driver of the Seat who was flown to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle by the Great North Air Ambulance Service with serious injuries. Durham Police confirmed that the driver has sadly passed away.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "A woman has sadly died following a collision on the A690 on Saturday.
"Police were called to a two-vehicle collision involving a Seat Leon and Volvo V70 at the junction with Pittington Lane at around 5.25pm.
"The driver of the Seat was flown by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, with serious injuries but sadly passed away.
"Her family have asked to be left alone to grieve privately and do not wish to make a public tribute. They are being supported by specialist officers.
"Additionally, out of respect to all parties involved, we would ask that no names of those involved are posted here, and no speculation is made as to the circumstances of the collision.
"An investigation is ongoing by our officers in the Roads and Armed Policing team, alongside Forensic Collision Investigators.
