A woman in her 50s has died after a Stagecoach double-decker bus crashed into a shelter in Manchester on Sunday night. The woman, a pedestrian, died in the incident which happened as passengers waited at the bus stop.
Emergency services were called the scene near Piccadilly Gardens in the city centre at around 9.30pm last night. Another woman in her 50s suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital and a man in his 60s was treated for minor injuries, Manchester Evening News reports.
The road was cordoned off between Oldham Street and Lever Street until around 6am on Monday (July 11) and the bus stop outside Travelodge remains closed. Eyewitnesses described seeing a Stagecoach bus mount the kerb and then crash into the bus stop.
