Woman cuts £400 off electricity bill by switching off energy 'guzzler'

A woman has shared how she saved hundreds of pounds on her electricity bill - by switching off an energy 'guzzler' in her home. Harriet Morphy-Morris and her partner are new renters and have tried every hack they could find to save money.

The couple looked at turning off appliances left on standby, running the washing machine during off-peak hours and even turning the thermostat down by one degree. However their direct debit payments continued to go up, leaving them scratching their heads about why they were overspending.

Harriet told the MEN they are on a standard variable tariff with EDF and pay via direct debit. They expected fluctuating prices given the cost of living crisis but until recently their monthly bill for two was more than the average amount for a family of four.
