A woman had to be cut from a car after a three-car smash on Strathaven Road on Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened at 12.37pm near to Hamilton.

There were reports of multiple police cars on the scene with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirming appliances were in attendance.

Two casualties were handed into the care of paramedics with a 43-year-old woman taken to hospital.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 12.37pm on Saturday, September 24 to reports of a road traffic collision involving three cars on Strathaven Road, Hamilton.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where crews assisted a casualty by removing a door and handing the female into the care of paramedics.

"Another casualty was also in the hands of the Scottish Ambulance Service."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.30pm on Saturday, September 24, to a report of three car crash on Strathaven Road, Limekilnburn, Hamilton.

"Emergency services attended and 43-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

"The road was closed and re-opened around 3.15pm.

"A 27-year-old man, the driver of one of the cars, has been charged in connection with a road traffic offence.”

The smash follows two serious separate RTCs on Friday in the East Kilbride area - one of which saw the death of a 50-year-old male pedestrian on the Kingsway.

Enquiries are continuing and a 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 81-year-old female driver was also taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries following a two-car smash on Glasgow Road at the junction with Cairnmuir Road on the A749.

Police are also appealing for anyone with further information or dashcam footage to come forward.
