A woman is fighting for life in hospital after being found seriously injured on a major road in Dumfries and Galloway.

The alarm was raised after the 48-year-old was discovered at around 1.45am on Saturday June 18, on the A701 at St Anns.

She was rushed to the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where medics described her condition as ‘critical’.

Investigators have closed the road in both directions while they carry out enquiries into the circumstances of how she came to be injured.

A diversion for motorists is in place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a woman injured on the A701 at St Anns, around 1.45am on Saturday 18 June 2022.”

“The 48-year-old was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, where she is in a critical condition.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident. The road is currently closed and diversions are in place.”
