A 52-year-old woman has been charged with the alleged assault of a waitress, who had to seek emergency dental surgery following the incident.
On April 25, French backpacker Anais Poupon was working as a waitress at Essendon’s La Vallee Café when a stranger walked past and allegedly knocked a plate of food she was carrying out of her hands.
The plate smashed into Poupon’s teeth, and as a result, the 19-year-old had to seek emergency dental surgery to fix her chipped tooth.
CCTV footage of Poupon’s alleged encounter was shared on social media by La Valle Café, with hopes of finding the alleged perpetrator.
“We are beyond shocked at this abhorrent behaviour of this grown woman. If you know her, please send us a private message,” the café wrote in an April 28 Instagram post.
“This incident led to one of our beautiful staff members CHIPPING THEIR TOOTH from the plate she pushed into her face,” the café claimed.
Reflecting on the alleged incident, Poupon claimed the woman said, “It’s your fault”, after the plate had hit her face.
“I’m very upset, I’m like, why does this lady do that? Like, I did nothing,” Poupon told 9News.
Woman charged over alleged Essendon café assault
Almost a month later, a Footscray woman was arrested at Dandenong Railway Station about 10.50am on May 23.
Vic Police have since charged the woman with recklessly causing injury and fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court the following day.
The woman was bailed by the court and is set to appear at Broadmeadows’ Magistrates’ Court on 17 August, 2026.
