A "creative" woman is in disbelief after receiving a phone call from a wealthy former school friend who demanded she come to work in her home as her cleaner.
The "condescending" acquaintance, 'Miranda', called the woman unexpectedly and offered to pay her £10 per hour to work for her. The woman was stunned by Miranda's "brisk" tone and her "irritation" after being turned down.
The woman took to Mumsnet's popular Am I Being Unreasonable (AIBU) forum to see if other people found Miranda's request as baffling as she did. She penned: "This person - shall we call her Miranda? She's from a rich family and I knew her at school. I work in Ceramics and she's moving in posh dynamic circles, with a large house, no kids, single - etc. We're struggling artists, but we make do. She rang me up and said, "I need a cleaner" in a brisk tone.

"I said, 'I can't help you. We do our own cleaning, so I don't know of anyone who employs a cleaner... and... nope sorry'. She got irritated and said "I want YOU to be my cleaner. Tenner an hour". I thought, "huh?????" I explained that I didn't have time, but thanks a lot, etc.
Put the phone down. And thought - did that just happen???"
The woman's post was met with heaps of responses from fellow Mumsnet users, keen to share their thoughts. One simply said: "Going rate is £15 so she's tight as well as rude."
Another said: "Cheeky thing! I imagine whoever cleans for her is going to have a hard time of it anyway." A third commented: "How strange."
Another said: "She's a cheeky ****** and tight with it. £17.00 an hour here, the person who charges this is so in demand she has a reserve list of would be clients wanting her to clean for them, She's taken on two employees!"
A fifth Mumsnet user said: "WHAT a cheeky *****. I would be fuming. Text her tomorrow and say you need a gardener, and you want her to do it. I didn't think people like her actually existed in real life."
Another commented: "I would have laughed at her and said and I want to win the euro millions and there's a million times more chances of that happening than me cleaning for you." And another joked: "Get on with it you ungrateful peasant! What a *****! Tell her to **** off!"
One Mumsnet user said: "Wow… I'd certainly let everyone at school know about the call - and how you feel about it. What a condescending cow." And another added: "I pay £15 an hour! So she's got no chance for a tenner. Blooming rude to do that!"
At the time of writing, 96% of Mumsnet users voted the woman was not being unreasonable.
