Woman arrested in attempt to murder case in Kerala

KOTTAYAM: In a horrific case of 'love crime', a married woman was arrested for attempting to murder the wife of her friend to earn his love.

The woman dressed as a nurse tried to inject air through a syringe in the young patient admitted in a private hospital in Parumala in Pathanamthitta district. Police said that it was crime of passion and a case of murder attempt was charged against Anusha, 30, native of Karthikappally in Alappuzha district. She was remanded in judicial custody.

During the investigation, it has been clear that the murder attempt was a well-planned one by the accused.

According to Police, Anusha had a long standing relation with Arun, Pullukkulangara native. She attempted to murder Arun's wife Sneha after realising that Arun was distancing himself from her. Anusha was a pharmacist in a private hospital in Kandiyoor.

Anusha who walked into the room wearing the overcoat of a nurse tried to inject Sneha who was resting in the room, post-delivery, with a syringe filled with air, three times. By doing this Anusha was trying to create a serious health condition of air embolism. This condition occurs when air bubbles enter a vein or artery and block it which can even lead to death.

The incident was around 3pm on Friday. Sneha and her mother, who grew suspicious, raised an alarm and Anusha was held captive by the hospital staff. Police arrived soon and took her into custody. Sneha was soon moved to the labour room for observation.

Sneha was admitted in hospital for delivery one week back. She was discharged on Friday morning. Since there was a colour change in the skin of the newborn, the baby was not discharged. So Sneha and her mother were staying back in the room. It was during this time, Anusha came to the room wearing the dress of a nurse and forcibly tried to administer the injection. When Sneha raised the question of the need for an injection after she was discharged, Anusha forcibly tried to inject with the hollow syringe, Sneha told Police.

Anusha who had got separated from her first husband had married a person who is working abroad. According to Police, Anusha continued her relationship with Arun even after her second marriage.

They were in constant touch over the phone as well as in person.

Police have examined their messages over Whatsapp. They knew each other right from their college days.

Anusha wanted to marry Arun after divorcing her first husband. She attempted to murder Sneha to make Arun realise her love for him, said Police. Police recovered the syringe and gloves. She was also taken for collecting evidence to the medical shop in Pullukkulangara from where he bought them. She was also taken to the textile shop in Kayamkulam from where she had bought the overcoat. Arun was let off after interrogation.
