A young woman saved the lives of her fiance's family in a huge house fire on Christmas Day when she alerted them to the danger, before dying in the flames with the family’s dogs.
Destiny Abdrazack, 22, had fallen asleep in the California home when an electrical short from their Christmas Tree caused a fire to break out at around 2am.
She bravely called out to the other five people in the home who were able to escape.
Tragically, Destiny was killed in the huge blaze, with her in-laws’ pet dogs, KCRA reported.
It was later revealed none of the fire alarms in the home were working at the time.
Her father-in-law Ernest Isom explained the family had fallen asleep on Christmas Eve.
He told the outlet: “Unfortunately, they wanted to keep the lights on until the last minute and we all happen to fall asleep and we had an instant, seconds to get out.
“It was fast, and that's how quick it went. I'm talking minutes.
“Unfortunately, she (Destiny) was the one who yelled fire, and that's the sad part. She saved our lives.”
The New York Post reported Destiny was found in the living room and rushed to hospital but later died.
Neighbour Richard Byers said: “They were screaming, 'Destiny, there's someone inside, Destiny’.' There was nothing any of us could do.
“You could see the flickering light on the tree and that's kind of like the telltale sign of a fire.”
He explained he and another neighbour attempted to fight the flames themselves by grabbing an extinguisher and a garden hose, but neither was any help.
Family friend Gabriella Zaccaria has started a fundraiser for the family which has so far raised around £3,000.
It reads: “On Christmas morning at 2am the Isom family lost everything in a house fire that started and spread rapidly.
“Destiny is one of the most beautiful souls that crossed our paths. She is no longer earth side but she will always be with us.
“Any donation at this time helps. All donations and funds will go to Destiny’s parents and her siblings for hospital and funeral costs.”
One supporter, who parted with $20 for the family, wrote: “I saw the fire, the damage and it was heartbreaking to watch.
“So sorry to all of you and pray for you all.”
The Sacramento Metro Fire Department is set to have a smoke detector campaign in early January to raise awareness and help families with installation.
