Woman, 73, seriously hurt after being knocked off mobility scooter on busy Leeds road

A 73-year-old woman has been rushed to hospital following a serious crash in Crossgates today (Tues).

West Yorkshire Police were called to the scene of a serious crash involving a mobility scooter and a car on Station Road in Crossgates this morning. A 73-year-old woman, who was on the mobility scooter, was rushed to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

The incident happened on a pedestrian crossing near to the railway station at 10.29am on Tuesday, a road closure remained in place until after 2pm. The elderly woman's injuries are not considered to be life threatening.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 10:29am today, police were called to a road traffic collision involving a mobility scooter and a red Vauxhall Corsa in Station Road, Crossgates, on a pedestrian crossing near to the railway station.

"A 73-year-old woman from the scooter was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment to injuries that were potentially serious but not believed to be life threatening.

"A scene and road closure were put in place pending updates on her condition, and was lifted shortly after 2pm.

"The driver stopped at the scene and has been spoken to by officers. Officers from West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit are continuing to carry out enquiries into the incident."

The crash caused major delays across the city as the outbound carriageway of Station Road in Crossgrates all the way to the railway station was closed by police. Traffic has now returned to normal.
